The Original Analects

The full text of The Original Analects is here made available in PDF format, for the use of those working on translations into other languages (at this writing, Korean and Chinese versions are in progress, the latter essentially complete and in final editing), and for eventual archive purposes.

These PDFs were made from the original files, but over time, those files had suffered the loss of the original Electra font requested by the publisher, and conversion to Times New Roman (itself not entirely consistent) has required occasional minor rewriting to keep the original page numbering valid. As of August 2019, the original illustrations are also missing (it is intended to restore them presently). A few typographical errors in the original have been silently corrected. No other changes have been made.

An Interview With the Authors (2019)

As background for both the original book and its translation into Chinese, we include here the text of an interview between Tao Youlan (Fudan University, Shanghai) and Wang Yan (Beijing, the translator of the Chinese version) with the authors, Bruce and Taeko Brooks, which was conducted in June 2019. This edited version will also be published in Chinese.
